Dear Families,
We are excited that Shaare Emeth will be sending a delegation of teens to the gun violence prevention “March for Our Lives” in Washington, DC. This is an amazing opportunity for teens to live our Jewish values and rally for gun violence prevention for which the Reform Jewish movement has long advocated. Below please find an overview of our plans for the weekend. Thanks to the generosity of members of our Shaare Emeth community, we’re able to make this experience available to teen for $300.
Thursday, March 22
Our group flight will depart St Louis for Washington at 8:55pm. We’ll arrive in Washington around midnight and plan on spending the night at a hotel near the airport.
Friday, March 23
We’ll spend the day touring DC before heading to Washington Hebrew Congregation where we will join hundreds of Reform teens from across the country for Shabbat services and dinner. Washington Hebrew is in the process of planning what looks like an amazing program including Rabbi Brad Boxman and teens from Kol Tikvah in Parkland, where 3 of Parkland victims were members, and a special social justice rally with Jewish musicians including Dan Nichols, Alan Goodis, Stacey Beyer, and Rabbi Joe Black. We will be sleeping at Washington Hebrew Congregation on Friday evening.
Saturday, March 24
We’ll begin by joining the Jewish community pre march gathering before taking to the National Mall to demand action. After the march, we’ll have some time to relax in DC and mark Havdalah on the National Mall. We will stay at a local hotel on Saturday night.
Sunday, March 25
We’ll spend the day exploring DC before heading to the airport. Our flight will arrive back in St Louis at 9pm.
