Shaare Emeth is excited to host teens from across the Missouri Valley region for NFTY-MV’s Junior Youth Group Chavurah (JYG). JYG is an opportunity for Shaare Emeth to welcome young people to our community and highlight our vibrant Congregation and youth programming. The event will take place on February 2-4, 2018. There are a number of ways for community members to help. I hope you will support this exciting youth engagement opportunity.
The weekend is a wonderful opportunity for 7th and 8th graders to join together for fun and learning. We will spend the weekend celebrating Shabbat, participating in fun programs and making new friends. Registration opens the week of December 4.
Be a Host Family
JYG participants stay with host families from Shaare Emeth. I hope you will consider opening your home to teens for the weekend. You can house as many teens (minimum of three and maximum of nine) as you can transport safely with seat belts. Please note that you do not need to provide a bed for each teen; they will bring sleeping bags and pillows. Host families are asked to provide breakfast and dinner on Saturday. Hosts will pick up teens around 10 p.m. each evening and drop them off in the morning around 9:30 a.m. Teens will also return to their host homes on Saturday evening from approximately 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. for dinner and to prepare for the evening activity. You will receive an exact schedule in advance of the event. Sign up to be a host family.
Shaare Emeth needs volunteers to help ensure a smooth event. Volunteers are especially needed to help with meals and transportation for host families with smaller vehicles. If you are interested in volunteering, please complete the online form, and we’ll be in touch with you in January to sign up for specific times.
Bake or Buy
By baking desserts or purchasing snacks, you can help ensure that our guests feel welcome. Fill out the online form, and we’ll send more information about exactly what we need. Sign up to help with snacks and desserts.
Support Youth Scholarships
Each year, Shaare Emeth’s youth scholarship endowments funds, Sam & Libby Cohen Youth Leadership Fund and Todd Jason Kronemer Youth Activities Fund, along with the Rabbis’ Special Fund provide thousands of dollars to enable teens with financial needs to participate in Jewish youth programs. A donation to these funds is an investment in our Jewish future. To make a donation, visit our website.
