Position Summary:

The Early Childhood Engagement Director is responsible for the daily operation of all early childhood programs including Shirlee Green Preschool at the temple.  The Early Childhood Engagement Director will create an atmosphere of welcoming students and parents to all ECE programs, keep a safe and healthy environment throughout all programs.  The Director will maintain positive relationships with staff and families and evaluate programs for continuous improvement. This ECE Director must maintain fiscal accountability through budget preparation and oversight throughout the year.

Essential Functions:

a.   Supervision of all ECE staff including yearly staff reviews

b.   Develop and organize staff training throughout the year as deemed appropriate to the ECE Director

c.   Review and update curriculum annually

d.   Plan and supervise parent/teacher conferences

a.   Maintain and update Parent Manual, Staff Handbook and Job Descriptions when necessary

b.   Maintain and update informational materials (brochures, pamphlets, etc.)

c.    Determine student placement

d.   Maintain an environment in accordance with state/county codes

e.   Supervise Camp Micah Director

f.     Plan yearly calendar

g.   Manage, develop, and implement policies and procedures

h.   Learn, grow, and commit to a high level of continuing professional development

Fiscal Responsibilities

a.      Maintain financial policies and procedures consistent with the Congregation’s mission and goals

b.      Prepare and implement annual operating budget

c.      Assist in determining salaries and hourly pay for staff

d.     Assist in determining enrollment fees and tuition annually

Family Engagement

a.       Conduct intake and tours with prospective families

b.      Familiarize parents with school polices

c.      Collaborate with supervisor and Communication Director to create, promote and implement early childhood engagement programming.

d.      Maintain positive parent relationships

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

a.   While performing the duties described above, the employee is regularly required to sit or   stand for long periods of time

b.   Required to use a computer for extended periods of time, resulting in frequent and

repetitive hand/arm movement

c.   Evenings and weekends may be required

d.   Conferences with some travel may be expected

e.   Lift children on occasion

f.    Shop for necessary supplies for programs

Education and Experience:


  • Must have an undergraduate degree in related field
  • Minimum two (2) years directing an early childhood program (Camp Director, etc.)
  • Familiarity with Jewish education
