If you have chosen to support Congregation Shaare Emeth this year, thank you.
We recently finished our year-end giving campaign, Shaare the Light, which highlighted our mission statement and seven core commitments.
(If you missed it, you can watch those videos here.)
All of the educational programs, worship experiences and social justice initiatives we undertake year-after-year are guided by these values. When we open our doors to Room at the Inn once a month, when we launch exciting new programs like Simchat Shabbat and MakomSTL and when we update our security system in order to ensure the safety of our building, we put our money — quite literally — where our mouth is.
But none of it would be possible without you. This Congregation is one of the most generous, compassionate communities in the country. Every day, you choose to say, “This is my Temple, I believe in who we are, and I am excited about what we can accomplish together.”
Maybe you sit on a committee, tutor students at Oak Hill, sing in the choir or serve in one of the countless other ways our Congregants share their time and talents every year. Maybe you contributed to our Shaare the Vision campaign, made a tribute in memory of a loved one or gave to one of our quarterly tzedakah recipients. However you chose to participate in our community this year, we thank you.
We hope you are as proud of your Temple as we are of you. In 2017, we launched two new worship experiences – Eat, Pray, Learn and Simchat Shabbat. We created a brand new adult learning initiative called MakomSTL. We supported New American families through the International Institute, provided shelter and meals for people who are homeless, collected items for the Harvey Kornblum Jewish Food Pantry and tutored children at Oak Hill Elementary. We laughed together as members of our community were married or became B’nai Mitzvah and mourned together as members lost loved ones or suffered from illnesses. We live streamed services for our homebound Congregants, prepared special holiday programming and worship experiences, completed a major renovation project, celebrated our 150th anniversary and confirmed 29 Religious School students. And that just barely scratches the surface of all Congregation Shaare Emeth has been able to do this year because of your support.
It has truly been an impactful year. And as we look back with gratitude, we look forward with hope and excitement for 2018. Thank you for everything you do for Congregation Shaare Emeth. We appreciate you and can’t wait to see what next year has in store.
